I became aware of Stew
when he was singing with The Negro Problem. He has since gone on to many diverse successes, ranging from being named among the 25 New Faces of Independent Cinema
magazine to performing "Gary's Song" on an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants
in which our favorite sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea attempts to coax home his wayward snail. Taking a break from world domination, Stew and his colleague Heidi Rodewald have delivered a surprising, propulsive, truly six-o'clock-in-the-morning vision of "Broadway."
Special thanks to the inimitable Gary Stewart for introducing me to both Stew's music and Stew himself. And if you're in New York, he'll be at Joe's Pub on June 10 and so should you.
